I read an article in the paper this week about how schools are dealing with cell phones in the classroom. Many administrators felt that it was important to incorporate texting in lessons rather than trying to ban it altogether.
I realize that no cell phones in the classroom is our current policy, but I was wondering if anyone ever used texting in a lesson plan and how they used it.

I must have read the same article, and would love to have texting be a part of the classroom--but in a positive way! If anyone can find out how to appropriately use texting in the classroom or whether the admins here would be for it, it would be a plus to a lot of teachers. I can see parents not being happy about it if there is a cost associated with the class texting. Hmmm, maybe cell phone companies can come up with a back to school plan?
Hmmmmm...I hadn't thought of the fact that texting costs money. I wonder if anyone has ever used it for teaching purposes considering that fact. I'm sure it would be ok for students with unlimited texting; however, there are already concerns about students who do not have internet access and I bet there are many students without cell phones or the ability to text. Technology can be so exciting, but it is also frustrating once I start to recognize some of the limitations.
